// 03 · Facilitate Music Sessions

Therapeutic music groups.
We bring the band.

We provide the rhythm to help you find your groove.

A professional JAM Master leads a group to write, play, and record an original song — start to finish — in a single session. No experience needed; everyone leaves having made something real.

// How a session works

Four moves. One song.

  1. 01

    Gather

    A group comes together. Instruments are handed out — guitars, drums, keys, percussion, mics. No skill required.

  2. 02

    Write

    The JAM Master guides the group to write an original song together. Lyrics, melody, story — everyone contributes.

  3. 03

    Play

    The group performs it live, as a band. The breakthrough moment — people playing together for the first time.

  4. 04

    Record

    The song is recorded on the spot. Everyone leaves with proof of what they made.

// Your JAM Masters

Professional musicians in recovery.

Every session is led by a JAM Master — a professional musician in long-term recovery. Peer-led care backed by real credentials. They've stood on the world's biggest stages and in the smallest treatment rooms, and they bring both to every session.

  • Addiction-counseling credentials — CADC, CAC, RADC, CDAC
  • Affiliated with CCAPP, NAADAC, and CAADE
  • CPR-certified
  • 10+ years in therapeutic settings

// Delivered by

BandJAM — the group music wellness platform behind every session.

JAM Masters, instruments, sound, scheduling, and recordings.

// How sessions happen

The participatory model.

Every session is made possible by three parties showing up together — a donor, a recipient organization, and our delivery platform.

  1. 01

    A donor gives

    Participating donors give $125 to sponsor a session for a facility or population they care about. One-time gifts fund sessions directly; larger and designated sponsorships are arranged with our team.

  2. 02

    A recipient joins

    Recipient organizations — recovery nonprofits such as CRI-Help and The Salvation Army — co-invest $100 per session as a stake in their community's recovery.

  3. 03

    Sessions are delivered

    BandJAM, our sister organization and delivery platform, delivers the full $325-value session — JAM Masters, instruments, sound, scheduling, and recordings — at a deep, below-market discount.

// Formats the model powers

The model powers every format — weekly facility-based groups of 1–14 (in person in CA/OR/TN or virtual anywhere) and private one-on-one sessions — plus our subsidized program for other nonprofits and state-funded organizations (scholarships available by email).

Rock to Recovery is an independent 501(c)(3). Sessions are procured from BandJAM at below-market rates under a board-approved agreement; Rock to Recovery independently selects the organizations and populations it serves.

// Not a nonprofit?

Looking for corporate team-building or private-pay group music experiences? That's our sister organization, BandJAM.

// Who we serve

Three focus areas. One method.

Every session — no matter the room — runs the same playbook: write, play, record.

// Why it works

Not magic. Music.

Songwriting opens people up

Writing lyrics together bypasses the rational mind and reaches root issues talk therapy alone can miss — clients open up sooner and engage deeper in recovery.

Playing as a band rewires the brain

Playing together builds teamwork, communication, and real community — and is associated with the release of dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin while reducing cortisol.

Recording gives them something real

Every group leaves with a finished, recorded song of their own. Not a metaphor for progress — proof of it.
